G22 – Edna Sednitzer Numbers Station Profile

G22 was a numbers station run by Bulgarian Intelligence (SIA).  Like most other number stations in the Edna Sednitzer network, it had a very poor LSB signal and few schedules which made it difficult to find.  The voice was distorted and German speakers noted it had a strange accent.

G22 was first active sometime in the 1980’s, but went inactive or unnoticed for a long period of time.  This strange period of inactivity also happened to another Edna Sednitzer station, E18.  While it was inactive, it’s Morse counterpart M13 continued to send messages.

The station was reactivated and began sending traffic again in 1997.  It’s only schedule was the first Thursday of the month at 22:00 around 5-6 mHz, using ID 186.  It was last heard sometime in February or March in 2006.
