The Air Horn

The Air horn is a Russian military station operated in the western military district. It transmits on 3510.00kHz and broadcasts its channel marker 24/7. the station originally broadcast on frequency 4020.00kHz. On May 24th the Air Horn used 4070 kHz and now has switched to 3510 kHz in early October.  The station would go offline on December 11th, 2019 where it had a sudden breakdown.  It returned to its usual operation back on January 16th, 2020 on 3510 kHz again.

On September 14th, 2022 the station changed frequencies again to 4930 kHz and then transmitted it’s first message ever on September 21, 2022 at 14:18 UTC:

Иван-100 ГОЛУБОЧЕК 42 97

The Air Horn then continued sending more messages.  What’s interesting about the next two messages (both Vozdukh) it sent is they were completely the same – on September 15, 2022 and October 10th the following month: Vozdukh Иван-100 БЫТОСТИХ 6759

Before Sept 21st 2022, this station did not send any message traffic.  The Air Horn is primarily used for testing technical equipment and other audio tests. We have noticed this station tends to stop transmitting on random days only to return a few days later. Since this is presumed a test station it is common to have it stop on days it may not be needed.
