S21 – The Russian Man Numbers Station Profile

The S21 numbers station can be described as a cross between the 00000 family and 000 family, since it contained a structure belonging to both. In some early recordings, you can hear a term before and sometimes after the message groups are read (sometimes twice).  This was when the station used to have a female voice and was called the Russian Lady.

According to Numbers & Oddities the term appears to be RAZDEL. This disappeared when it switched to S06’s voice in October 2010.  S21 earlier was recorded on tape, then transmitted. This method made it hard to understand at certain times and many mistakes happened.  The modern version of S21 was run from Windows XP, like many other number stations.  It was made evident through OS sounds such as shutting down during the transmission.

S21 was the voice counterpart to M45, sending the same message 40 minutes after M45 transmitted.  Last observed in October 2013.
